How to Create a Virtual Machine from a Snapshot in Hyper-V

Have you ever needed to revert back to a previous state of your virtual machine in Hyper-V? Creating a snapshot is a great way to save a checkpoint of your VM at a specific point in time. In this article, we will guide you through the process of creating a new virtual machine from a snapshot in Hyper-V.

Before we begin, make sure you have a snapshot of your virtual machine saved. If you do not have a snapshot, you can easily create one by right-clicking on your VM in Hyper-V Manager and selecting “Snapshot”.

Now, let’s get started on creating a new virtual machine from the snapshot:

Step 1: Open Hyper-V Manager

First, open Hyper-V Manager on your Windows machine. You can do this by searching for “Hyper-V Manager” in the Start menu.

Step 2: Locate the Snapshot

In Hyper-V Manager, locate the snapshot that you want to create a new VM from. Click on the snapshot to select it.

Step 3: Create a New VM from Snapshot

Right-click on the snapshot and select “Export”. This will open the Export Virtual Machine wizard.

Follow the wizard’s prompts to export the snapshot as a virtual machine.

Choose a location to save the exported virtual machine files and click “Next”.

Review the summary of the export settings and click “Finish” to start the export process.

Step 4: Import the New VM

Once the export process is complete, navigate to the location where you saved the exported virtual machine files.

Double-click on the exported virtual machine configuration file to import the VM into Hyper-V.

Follow the Import Virtual Machine wizard’s prompts to import the VM.

Review the summary of the import settings and click “Finish” to start the import process.

Once the import process is complete, you will have successfully created a new virtual machine from a snapshot in Hyper-V!
